Chiropractic Neck Adjustment Safety

Skeptics occasionally mention the possibility of injury that might occur as a result of cervical (neck) adjustments. This simply fuels the rumors and misinformation. These alarmists seldom stop to investigate the false claims and innuendo.

Rarely, someone who benefits from chiropractic care for their own health issues may be hesitant to allow their doctor to utilize cervical adjustments during the course of their care. That’s too bad.  In reality, cervical adjustments are among the most beneficial, and safest, type of care you can receive.

A significant number of research studies conducted in Switzerland, Canada, Holland, Denmark, and the U.S., back this up. Here are the facts:

1. Since chiropractic doctors don’t use drugs or surgery, which account for almost all of the adverse reactions, injuries and deaths related to health care, chiropractic care is considered by many to be among the safest of all forms of health care.
2. An article that appeared in the February 2002 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American College of Physicians, stated, "No serious complication has been noted in more than 73 controlled clinical trials or in any prospectively evaluated case series to date."
3. Malpractice insurance rates for chiropractic doctors are among the lowest of all health professions -- a fraction of what medical practitioners pay.
